Tons of systems in one package.. Take a turn based jRPG, deck building card game and visual novel, put them in a blender and turn it on puree. The game is an amalgamation of all these mechanics and it actually manages to blend them quite organically. Allot of people seams to boil it down to comparing it to Persona 5, which I admit was clearly an inspiration for the devs. The game is a detective story, where our protagonists investigate the futuristic city of Mato (clearly inspired by Shanghai). You will explore the city and demonic planes fighting enemies (jRPG part), talk to NPC and your party members to grasp the plot (Visual Novel part) and interrogate suspects to discover the cities secrets (card game part). The one problem is that the game is clearly a budget tittle so you might find it's presentation "cheap" at some points. Still, if you like detective stories you should consider g…
Overhated. Political.. Mato Anomalies is an odd game that could only come from Chinese devs. What initially comes off as a Persona/SMT knockoff ends up evolving into a unique take on the cyberpunk genre, bravely tackling economic politics, class and greed. The battle system is a bit generic, the voice acting is amateurish, and the mindhacking system is initially very unintuitive. Through my play time I didn't experience any bugs however, so it's more that these systems don't innovate in any way that results in criticism. I found myself rushing through the battles to advance the story. As for the aesthetics of the game, I quite enjoyed them. The environments are a bit sparse but unique, the character designs are interesting and the music is enjoyable and didn't grate on me. The longer I played the more I felt the game growing its own identity and differentiating itself. If you enjoy visua…
great presentation, but-. falls short of feeling really fleshed out. for one, the 'city' in the game consists of a few hub areas w/very little to interact with. for another, the story (tho broken up w/some short cut scenes & some nice animated manga panel segments) is mostly told thru VN style text crawls. I don't mind reading, but after 7 hrs I just found I didn't care much about the story to click thru conversation after conversation. like, the grind in this game is following the story. the dungeon crawling & combat are the best things here & even they're brought down by the fact that they're what you spend the least amount of time doing. plus it takes forever to generate enough cash to buy new weapons & the gears system is -weird. the mindhack card game is good, but not great. I love the art & music & vibe of it.. just not playing it that much.
can't bind keys. bad keys
