Fell apart midway. Holy Potatoes! A Spy Story had me intrigued because there were several titles in the series, and the Spy story spinoff, with references to spy films, stealth games and so on seemed fun enough to try out. I got the game on sale and tried it out. The cartoony designs are appealing enough, as are the puns on potatoes. The basic premise of the game is that you run a spy agency, recruit spies with different strenghts, train them up and send them on missions. Rinse and repeat as the game gets harder. However, where the game falls apart is that as the missions get harder, so too do the punishments for failure. Whenever you're about to start a new mission you've got to pick a "route" that matches as closely as possible the strengths of your various spies. You can mitigate weaknesses somewhat using tools you develop, and use certain abilities to improve your odds. However, the…
Not Bad, Sometimes Confusing. This is a bright, colorful “upgrade” game: buy better stuff, level up your spies. The higher their stats, the better they do in mission. There’s four stats your spies have. Those stats correspond to actions during a mission. Enemies will either be weak, resistant, or immune to these stats. Should be simple: use the spy with the best stats. But that isn’t how it always plays out. One mission required the use of Charm, Stealth, and an enemy that had three “X” spots. I chose my spy with high Stealth and Charm and was a level higher than the enemies. The risk assessment? “Extreme Risk.” Made little sense, so I went into the mission. The first enemy was weak against Charm, so my spy gets to Charming and… “It’s not very effective.” Strange. Next enemy. Weak against Stealth. Great. Spy has better Steath than Charm. Goes into battle and… “It’s not very effective.” T…
I blinked and now its bed time. Yep, one of those games. It's a sugar-hit treadmill with no breaks. If you're looking to devour an afternoon or evening (or both) in a colourful, cheerful and occasionally humorous way, you'll be well served here.
Fan des autres holy potatoes.... Je déconseille, C'est facile au debut puis apres 5h de jeu c'est ultra chaud. Beaucoup d'espions avec chacun leur demande, le jeu n'apporte aucune aide (alors que on a prouvé notre valeur avant), resultat, on plannifie bcp mais la recompense de la mission est pas ouf. Et finalement on ne prends plus trop de plaisir.
